In a pot of only 8,000, big blind Guilio Astarita committed his stack of 27,200 on the 7?5?2? flop. He was looked up by Erich Tedeschi in middle position, who had him covered.
Giulio Astarita: 5?2?
Erich Tedeschi: 8?8?
Astarita had flopped two pair, taking a big lead against Tedeschi's eights. The K? turn did not help Tedeschi, and the 2? river upgraded Astarita to a full house, doubling him up.
The action was picked up on a turn of 6?10?J?A?. Francesco Cortese checked from middle position to Alex Sampirisi in the hijack. Sampirisi then added 5,400 to the pot of 16,500, after which Cortese quickly moved all in.
Sampirisi eyed the bet of 17,000 for a few seconds before making a call with the covering stack.
Francesco Cortese: 10?10?
Alex Sampirisi: A?A?
The set-over-set situation left Cortese wuth just one out, which did not arrive on the K? river. He shook his head as he headed to the rail while Sampirisi stacked up his former chips.
Philippe Wettstein had gotten his stack of 8,700 in from middle position against Eugenio Sanchioni under the gun, and was at risk.
Philippe Wettstein: A?K?
Eugenio Sanchioni: A?A?
Wettstein was in big trouble against the aces of Sanchioni. He turned some draws on 10?9?9?Q?, but the 4? river bricked off to send Wettstein to the rail.
Sanchioni, meanwhile, chipped up further to two starting stacks.
Eugenio Peralta and Stefano Latini had created a pot of 5,500 when they went to a turn of 8?3?6?7?. Peralta made a bet of 4,000, which Latini quickly called.
The 7? river then fell, on which Peralta fired 15,000 chips in the pot. Latini wasted little time before putting in a call.
Peralta could only show K?5? for king-high. Latini took the pot with J?J? for an overpair and expanded his big stack even more.
A new era of PokerStars events has arrived as Day 1a of the PokerStars Open (PSO) Campione seven-figure guaranteed €1,100 Main Event will get going at Casinò di Campione at 1 p.m. local time, marking the return of a PokerStars event in Italy after a six-year break.
The PokerStars Open is a new tournament series for 2025, replacing the previous regional tours of PokerStars, such as Estrellas and Eureka. Much will remain the same, with a well-structured €1,100 Main Event highlighting each stop, but the new tour provides a €1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool for its Main Events, enticing poker players across the continent to join the battle for large sums of cash.
PSO Campione also marks the debut of the new PokerStars Live League, an exciting addition to the 2025 European schedule. This leaderboard feature allows players to earn points across three different tiers based on event buy-ins at European PokerStars tournaments throughout the year, with Campione serving as the first opportunity to accumulate points. Over €150,000 in buy-ins are up for grabs in the PokerStars League, as well as the opportunity to become the newest member of PokerStars Team Pro.
PokerStars Live League
Day 1a is the first of four starting flights of the PSO Campione Main Event, with two taking place each day, one at 1 p.m. and one at 7 p.m. The coverage will focus on the flights that start during the day, but the chip counts of the fast-paced evening flights will also be posted at the end of the day. Each Day 1 plays ten levels, with late registration remaining open until the start of Level 13 on Day 2, at which point a starting stack will be worth 20 big blinds.
Day 1a has levels of 60 minutes, and each player starts with 30,000 chips. The blinds start at 100/100 (100), providing a very deep stack for those who register on time. A break is scheduled after every two levels, with a dinner break of 75 minutes after Level 6, around 7:40 p.m. local time.
