Langlitz On Top, Filatov Among Leaders After Day 1b of German Poker Championship
The second of three starting days of the 2017 partypoker LIVE German Poker Championship 2.200 Main Event is in the books. A total of 170 players had qualified with stacks via the online satellites on partypoker and the live satellites in the King's Casino in Rozvadov, and a further 126 direct buy-ins were added throughout the eight levels of one hour each to create a field of 296 entries.
Only 167 players bagged up chips and all those that failed to do so have two further chances to join the action. As of 12 p.m. local time the turbo heat Day 1c with levels of 20 minutes kicks off and Day 2 of the Main Event restarts at 3 p.m. local time. A single re-entry can be fired for both and the registration for 1c remains open for the entire duration, while all players can also re-enter once throughout the first four levels of Day 2.
Leading the field of Day 1b survivors is Viktor Langlitz, who also came into the day with the biggest stack. Langlitz coolered several opponents on the way to bag up an impressive 8,058,000 while partypoker sponsored pro and 5,300 High Roller champion Anatoly Filatov made it through with 5,500,000, Sonay Kehya rounds up the top three with 4,667,000. Marcel Luske had to fire a second bullet after running dry in the first three levels and carried over 2,109,000.
Other big stacks and notables include Alamzad Sina (3,996,000), Miroslav Lelek (3,703,000), Jan Mach (3,666,000), Kacper Pyzara (2,977,000), Jesper Hansen (2,913,000), Marek Blasko (2,899,000), Ondrej Mar (2,858,000), Marko Simic (2,470,000), Hossein Ensan (2,200,000), Paul Michaelis (1,969,000), and 2017 World Series of Poker Main Event 8th place finisher Jack Sinclair (1,377,000). Slovakia's Andrej Desset, who won back-to-back partypoker Grand Prix Main Events, advanced to Day 2 with 1,724,000 and his brother Dominik bagged up 910,000.
Some big names fell on Day 1b and that list includes Pierre Neuville, Sander van Wesemael, Martin Kabrhel, Andrew King and Moritz Dietrich. Neuville was on the wrong end of a straight-versus straight showdown while van Wesemael busted his first bullet quickly before taking a brutal beat on the second entry. Eventual chip leader Langlitz got it in preflop against the Dutchman with ace-king suited versus aces, and instead of a gutshot on the flop he hit running clubs for a flush to bust van Wesemael.
Martin Kabrhel and his card and chip-protecting hippo joined in the second-last level of the night, and the Czech poker brat ran out of chips in the very last hand. Kabrhel was at risk with pocket eights and Sandro Pitzanti looked him up with ace-jack off suit to hit a royal flush in order to dispatch Kabrhel in style.
The tournament is on track to not only meet but exceed the guaranteed prize pool of 1,000,000. The two starting days at Europe's biggest poker arena attracted 360 entries so far, of which 203 already have chips for Day 2. On top of that, another 37 players qualified for Day 2 on partypoker to make it 240 survivors, and further ones will be added to the mix via Day 1c.
The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor to provide updates until the Main Event champion is crowned on Monday, August 14th 2017.
